The first paragraph of a book/ story report should briefly tell a little about the basic story line/ what the problem is in the story (PLOT).It should tell where and when the story takes place (SETTING) and what type of story it is (STORY TYPE, Is it fiction, non fiction, science fiction, historical fiction, a biography, autobiography, adventure, classic, mystery, or romance?).
The second paragraph should tell more about the plot/ what the basic story line is. This can be done by naming 5 important events of the story. Name an important part at the beginning, middle and end of the story. Then go back and name an important event between the start and the middle, and the middle and the end. Be sure to mention who, what, when where, why and how in naming the important parts of the story.
The third paragraph should tell about the important characters in the story. Be sure to name them, tell what they are like well as what they look like, act like, think etc. Why are they important to the story? How do they interact with other characters?
The fourth paragraph may tell about the minor characters in the story. Name them, describe them and tell about their role in the story.
The fifth paragraph should tell how the story ended and how the problem was solved. What became of the characters at the end of the story?
The next paragraph should tell what you liked/ disliked about the story. Give details. Give examples. Do you think others would want to read this story? Explain.
The last paragraph should name and tell about the author. How did he/ she come to write this story? How/ why did he/ she become a writer? What type of books do they write? Have they won awards? Can you tell about their personal life?
Important Reminders:
Be sure to write a rough draft.
Did you check your spelling, punctuation, capitals, grammar, and paragraph form?
Did you use complete thoughts, topic and detail sentences? Do you have 5 sentences or more in each paragraph?
Did you name the author, title, setting, story type?
Did you tell about the plot, characters, what you liked/ disliked and about the author?
Each paragraph should have a topic sentence and at least 4 detail sentences. Use more detail to earn the best grade possible but don't give me pages of detail.
Write your final copy neatly and in blue or black ink/ or type it on the computer.

He’s proud at the end when “frindle” becomes a word.
Paragraph 4: Mrs. Granger is a older lady who is set in her ways. She does
things the same way and is always right. She knows how to deal with students. She wants Nick to respect her and the English language.

Paragraph 6: I liked Findle very much. Nick is a boy like me. He is funny and
smart. The kids at his school are on his side. I didn’t like Mrs. Granger. I’m glad I didn’t have a teacher like her!
