Science Fair News
Hello Parents,
As we have the SJS Annual Science Fair every other year, students will have to wait for next year for the fair. Fifth graders will be learning about the parts of the science project, how to write a report, how to prepare a presentation board and to prepare for a class presentation so that they will be ready for next year. Handouts have been posted/ distributed with due dates.
We will review each part of the report/ project in class. Students will prepare and share the parts with me for feedback to help them improve their work. Students will receive a science grade for the content and a language arts grade for the mechanics of good writing/ grammar aspects of the report.
Dismissal
Fifth grade will begin being dismissed at 2:20 each day and 11:25 on half days.
Mrs. Piazza would like teachers to remind parents not to arrive in the pick up car lane before your child's pick up time. Also, please do not park on the street while waiting for the right time to drive up as the back up could be a safety issue in preventing emergency vehicles from getting through. Thank you.
Students should know who is picking them up and where they are to go at the end of the school day- Out the back door, Aftercare, or an after school activity.
Uniforms
As of April 1st, students may wear shorts as part of their daily uniform. They are required to wear long pants for dress uniform days. They must also have SJS sweatshirts in class if they are cold and the SJS sweater for dress uniform days. Sweatshirts may not be worn on dress uniform days. Outdoor Jackets should not be worn in class. Students should have a jacket as we will go out for recess, weather permitting.
We are asking the boys to wear belts (a required part of the uniform) as well as to tuck their shirts in (another requirement to wearing the uniform correctly). Students will need a tie for dress up days and a school sweater as well (Sweater not needed until Nov. 1st). Please order these items if you are in need of them. Thank you.
Lunch time
Fifth Grade has lunch in the cafeteria at 11:30 am each day! You can buy ice cream on Fridays.

Please be advised that the school will send home papers/ notices to parents in the Tuesday Envelope. On weeks with a holiday on Monday it will go home on Wednesday. Please remove the contents, sign the back of the envelope and return it to school with anything that needs to come back to school inside of it. Thanks!
