Mr. Michael Cholette
Mr. Cholette is completing his 17th year (2020) as fifth grade teacher and extended day provider at St. Joseph Catholic School. He served as assistant principal from 2004 to 2011. He is a graduate of Bishop Stang High School, UMASS Dartmouth and is a certified elementary teacher in Massachusetts and was formerly certified in Florida where he lived for 13 years. Mr. Cholette co-chaired St. Joseph School’s accreditation with New England Association of Schools and Colleges in 2004, the school's re-certification in 2015, and has served on accreditation teams of other schools.
Michael was the St. Joseph School representative at the 150th anniversary of the Sisters of the Congregation of Jesus and Mary in Oahu, Hawaii in June, 2009. He flew to Molokai and walked in the footsteps of Saint Damien. He composed a current history of St. Joseph School and Parish following the trip.
Michael served on the St. Joseph Parish Council for 7 years under three pastors. Previously, Mr. Cholette taught fourth grade for seven years and was the administrative assistant to the principal for six years at a U. S. Dept. of Education Blue Ribbon Award Catholic elementary school in Florida. He was a lead counselor at Cathedral Camp for six summers, has worked in special education, as well as a parish CCD program.
Mr. Cholette received the “Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers Award.” He was the St. Joseph School 2018 Teacher of the year Nominee for BayCoast Bank and a 2019 Frigo Cheese Head "Build a Bright Future" Winner. He lives in New Bedford, enjoys travel, has researched his family’s history and enjoys outings with his dogs (Reilly and Snowy, R.I.P.) and Cookie.
